Belgrade
Belgrade is the nerve center and the largest city in Serbia. The city is located between the River Danube and Sava. The stretch of the town extends up to where the Balkans and Pannonian Plain converges. Belgrade when translated would literally mean white sound.

The urban location hosts about 1.2 million people while the metropolitan region hosts above 1.7 million people. This makes it among the most highly populated urban cities located in the Southeastern Europe.
History
Belgrade is a city that has passed from one administration to another. It has undergone complete destruction 44 times in 115 wars that have taken place in the city. The town is held as the birthplace of the pre-historic Europe. The city has also served as the administration of Yugoslavia from 1918-2003.
Belgrade is administered by an independent government and a unique administrative position in Serbia Territorial organization. The town is divided into 17 municipalities and each have a local council. 15% of Serbia lives in the urban region.
